Playa de la Arena in Puerto de Santiago is the main beach: black sand, calm water that suits families, and showers, sunbeds, bars and a diving area. It is a short drive or bus ride from Los Gigantes along the coast road. The shore around Los Gigantes itself is mostly rock, so many hotels have large pools and sea terraces instead.
The cliffs are the star: walk to the viewpoints in town or see them from the sea. Boats leave the marina daily for whale and dolphin watching a few miles offshore. The town is hilly in places, so check how far a hotel is from the front. Bus route 355 links Santiago del Teide village with Masca.
