Tenerife North (TFN) is about 15 minutes away by road; line 20 runs from the airport to Santa Cruz via La Laguna, and line 104 also serves the city. Tenerife South (TFS) is about an hour away, linked by line 10 to the Santa Cruz bus station. Taxis wait at both airports. Within the city the tram and TITSA buses cover most journeys.
Las Teresitas is the city's beach, in the fishing village of San Andrés: about 1,300 metres of golden sand with palm trees, a breakwater that keeps the water calm, lifeguards and a paddleboard area. Urban buses run there from the centre. Further round the coast, the Anaga beaches are wilder and easier to reach by car.
Carnival in February and March is the city's biggest event and draws huge crowds to the streets. The rest of the year, the pedestrian centre around Calle del Castillo is good for shopping, Parque García Sanabria is a calm green space, and the Auditorio de Tenerife hosts the symphony orchestra. Ferries leave for Gran Canaria in about 80 minutes.
It runs in February and into March and is recognised as a festival of international tourist interest.
