Tenerife North (TFN) is right next door, about 10 minutes away by road. Line 20 runs from the airport to the La Laguna bus station and on to Santa Cruz. From Tenerife South (TFS) allow about an hour; line 343 links the two airports. The tram runs between La Laguna and Santa Cruz. Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo are about 25 minutes from TFN.
La Laguna is inland, so swimming means the coast below. Three natural seawater pools on this coast hold 2026 Blue Flags: Bajamar, El Arenisco and Jóver. Bajamar also has a shingle and sand beach with bars and a yacht club, and Punta del Hidalgo has natural pools and rock pools near its lighthouse. Santa Cruz's Las Teresitas is a drive away.
The historic centre is made for walking: pedestrian streets such as Calle de la Carrera, the cathedral and Plaza del Adelantado, and a busy café and bar scene thanks to the university. The Anaga Biosphere Reserve starts just outside the city, with marked hiking trails through laurel forest. The tram makes Santa Cruz an easy day out.
Its historic centre, listed in 1999, keeps the 15th century street plan of the first unwalled colonial city.
