Hotels in Garachico

Garachico is a small, beautifully kept town on the north west coast, rebuilt after a volcanic eruption in 1706 filled its harbour with lava. Cobbled streets, old convents and a 16th century fort sit beside natural rock pools. This page also covers Icod de los Vinos, Los Silos and Buenavista del Norte. It suits couples, walkers and anyone after quiet and history.

11 hotels, including Icod de los Vinos and Los Silos and Buenavista del Norte and El Tanque. Listed by classification, then size; not a ranking.

Getting there

Tenerife North (TFN) is the nearer airport, about 50 minutes away by road. From Tenerife South (TFS) allow about an hour via the west coast. A hire car is the practical choice here: TITSA buses connect Garachico with Icod de los Vinos and Puerto de la Cruz, but the villages on this page are spread out and the roads wind.

Beaches

Garachico swims in El Caletón, natural pools formed where the 1706 lava met the sea; they are usually calm but watch for waves when the sea is up. San Marcos in Icod de los Vinos is a sheltered bay of black volcanic sand with a 2026 Blue Flag and terrace restaurants. Los Silos has Agua Dulce beach for a quieter dip.

Good to know

The old town is the reason to come: 16th and 17th century churches, convents and houses, protected since 1994, plus the Castillo de San Miguel from 1575. Icod de los Vinos has the Drago Milenario, a dragon tree of about 800 years, and Cueva del Viento, a vast lava tube you can tour. Walkers have the Teno hills to the west.

Staying in Garachico

Can you swim at El Caletón in Garachico?

Yes. The natural pools formed by the 1706 lava are usually calm, but it is wise to keep out when big waves come in.

Is San Marcos beach near Garachico?

Yes. It is in Icod de los Vinos, a short drive east: a sheltered black sand bay with a 2026 Blue Flag.

Do you need a car to stay in Garachico?

It helps. Buses link the main towns, but the villages are spread out and a car makes beaches, walks and Teide much easier.

What is there to see near Garachico?

The Drago Milenario dragon tree and the Cueva del Viento lava tube in Icod de los Vinos are both close by.
