Line 415 runs between El Fraile and San Isidro via the airport, and TITSA buses connect El Médano with San Isidro and the rest of the south. From Tenerife North (TFN) allow under an hour.
El Médano beach is about 750 metres of fine grey sand with Montaña Roja at one end. The town end has gentler water for families, and the far end is where windsurfers and kitesurfers launch. Over Montaña Roja, La Tejita is a long black sand beach in a protected area, reached by a five minute walk from the road; nudists are welcome there.
Water sports shape the town: schools and hire shops line the front, and the beach has hosted international championships. Montaña Roja, the volcanic cone beside the beach, is a protected area of sand and wetland where birds nest. The town has a relaxed, local feel with cafés around the seafront plaza. Its closeness to the airport makes it handy for early flights.
