Hotel Emblemático San Marcos is a six-room hotel in a refurbished 18th-century Canarian mansion in the historic centre of Icod de los Vinos. It sits a short walk from the Drago Milenario, the ancient dragon tree that is the town's great sight, and right by the main shopping streets.
Inside, the house keeps its period character, with a communal lounge for reading and relaxing, plus a garden and solarium for sunny afternoons. Wi-Fi is free throughout, and luggage can be stored if you arrive early or leave late. Icod makes a handy base for the north-west: the black sand of Playa de San Marcos is about 3 km downhill, Garachico is a short drive along the coast, and the roads up to Teide and out to the Teno mountains start nearby. It suits couples and touring travellers who want a historic house and a real town around them.
