On our lists

La Quinta Roja occupies a palace built in 1689 for the first Marqués de La Quinta Roja, beside the Plaza de la Libertad in the heart of Garachico. Over the centuries it has been a convent, a music school and council offices, and it opened as a hotel in 2001 after a long restoration that kept much of the original woodwork. There are 19 rooms, from standard doubles to a junior suite, some with a terrace.

The shared spaces are what make it: a courtyard with water features and greenery, a first-floor gallery with old wooden floors, a lookout once used to watch ships come into port, and a rooftop solarium with an outdoor shower and views of the sea and the Santa Ana church tower. The Silogía restaurant serves Canarian cooking with Mediterranean and Eastern touches, pets are welcome, and the El Caletón sea pools are a few minutes' walk.
