Puerto de la CruzOn our lists
Hotel Monopol is a family-run three-star with 100 rooms on Calle Quintana, a pedestrian street in the old town of Puerto de la Cruz, facing a tree-lined square and a few steps from the sea. The family behind it has been in hotel keeping for more than 90 years, and it shows in the building: rooms open onto a traditional Canarian courtyard filled with palms and plants and ringed by wooden balconies.
Beyond the courtyard there is an outdoor pool with a solarium, a sauna, a jacuzzi and a gym, plus a reading room and a lift. Food comes from the restaurant and from Tasca Don Carlos, the hotel's own tapas bar, with Spanish classics, Canarian potatoes with mojo and local wines. Rooms range from singles to doubles with a balcony. It suits couples and anyone who wants the old town's cafés and seafront on the doorstep.
