Océano Health Spa Hotel stands right on the Atlantic at Punta del Hidalgo, the small village at the foot of the Anaga mountains on Tenerife's green north-east tip. It has been a health retreat for decades, and all 94 rooms and suites face the sea, many with balconies and views across the bay to Mount Teide.
The draw is the spa and the programmes: F. X. Mayr cures, detox and therapeutic fasting, integrative medicine, thalassotherapy and beauty treatments. There is an indoor thalasso pool of seawater at 34°C, saunas, a steam bath and an ice fountain, an infinity pool in a subtropical palm garden, and a natural seawater pool in the sea just below. Stays are half board, with a buffet breakfast and a three-course dinner, and there is a rooftop bar on the eleventh floor.
