Parador de Las Cañadas del Teide stands at more than 2,000 metres inside Teide National Park, on the floor of the great Las Cañadas crater with the peak of Teide directly above. It is part of Spain's state-run Paradores group, and its 37 rooms share a lounge built around a fireplace.

Once the day visitors drive down, the park falls quiet, and the night sky over the crater is made for stargazing. The restaurant and some of the rooms look straight at the volcano. There is a heated indoor pool, a sauna and a small gym for after a day on the trails, plus room service and laundry. The parador produces its own electricity and draws its water from the mountain. Pets are welcome. It suits hikers, photographers and couples who want an early start on the Teide trails or a night under the stars.
